About KeStatus

KeStatus is an independent, live record of whether websites and online services are working — the Kenyan ones people rely on every day, and the worldwide ones they also use. It is operated by Romrek Solutions, a small independent business in Kenya.

Why this exists

When iTax, M-PESA, SHA, eCitizen or Kenya Power stop working, the usual way to find out is to ask around: a group chat, a colleague, a social post that may be hours old. Every answer is somebody's impression, not a measurement. Meanwhile the service operators rarely publish anything at all.

KeStatus closes that gap with a plain public record: 96 services, each checked from our own servers on a fixed interval, with the result published whether it is convenient or not. Nobody has to take our word for it — the evidence (the HTTP response, the latency, the failure reason) is on every service page.

How a reading is made

  • Every status is the result of a real HTTP request this service made. No vendor feeds, no press releases, no invented numbers.
  • Where it matters, we assert content, not just a status code: a captive portal or a maintenance page that answers 200 is reported as down, not up.
  • A single bad check is not an outage. Kenyan services need two consecutive failures before going red, and the remote ones need three, so one rate-limit blip cannot put a false alarm on the board.
  • Probes come from our servers only. If a service refuses us — a bot wall, a failed certificate, a hostname that does not resolve — we say exactly that instead of guessing. Those services are not shown as down, because a refusal is not an outage.
  • Community reports sit alongside the probe, never instead of it: people can see what a probe cannot (a sign-in loop, a code that never arrives, a payment failing at the last step), and both are shown with their evidence.

What this is not

  • Not affiliated with, endorsed by, or acting for any service we monitor.
  • Not a government or operator service, and not an official statement by anyone.
  • Not a guarantee. A probe can be right from our network and wrong from yours. Status information is best-effort, as-is, and alerting is offered the same way — see the terms.

Who runs it

KeStatus is built and operated by Romrek Solutions in Kenya. The software is proprietary — © 2026 Romrek Solutions, all rights reserved, governed by the laws of Kenya. The first public release (commit eaaa773f) was published under the MIT licence and stays under it; everything since is not.

Advertising and affiliate slots, where they appear, are labelled and never interfere with a reading. Nothing about them influences whether a service is reported as up or down.
